Why do people keep looking for the next new diet, shake, pill or injection, even though we know without doubt that some 98% of people who lose weight will put it straight back on?
It’s because we humans are under the illusion that we actually choose what and how we consume. We delude ourselves that we make these choices from free will. But that’s a lie we tell ourselves because there is no diet, shake, pill or injection that will actually change our personal tastes, preferences and habits around food and drink.
Those tastes and preferences run at the level of the unconscious, and these unconscious drivers are what take us back to old habits, pretty much every, single, time.
It should be glaringly obvious then that the only way we’re going to achieve permanent weight reduction in such a way that we naturally, easily and automatically sit at a healthy weight, is to alter those tastes and preferences and habits. Hypnosis fails again and again, education fails again and again, psychological tricks like distraction or self talk fail again and again.
So what does work? The answer is a relatively new “extinction” strategy (extinction of conditioned thoughts, feelings, and behaviour) that literally wipes that stuff out, reliably, robustly, and permanently. The first of these that I want to share with you is the “Kill Cravings” technique that the last post described.
In order to get that particular technique to work for you, I have two videos below. The first one shows you step by step how to successfully “install” a conditioned response. There’s no point continuing to the second video and actually trying the full “Kill Cravings” technique unless you can get a result with the first video.
The second video is a demonstration of the “Kill Cravings” technique with an actual client, including an explanation of how and why it works.

Teaching Points
Although I did the technique “to” the client in this video, this is only to help teach the client to execute the technique herself. It’s critically important in a weight loss journey that the client learn the skills so that he/she is able to take a few minutes each day to continue to work on specific issues. Give the client the power, not the therapist.
Notice that I check with the client whether what I think I’m perceiving from her is accurate or not. There’s no point kidding ourselves that something is having an effect if it’s not, and of course the only real test that matters is what happens when the client goes home, today, tomorrow, and in the years to come.
